Are you homeless or formerly homeless
looking for a safe environment and a creative outlet?
Open Studio Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday
from 1:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the St. David’s Trinity Center
at 304 E. 7th, in Downtown Austin.
These weekly sessions are the heart of Art From the Streets. Open studio is a great way to create art, relax a little, and hang out with caring, supportive people. Our open studio sessions are come as you are. You won’t need any supplies and NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Art From the Streets provides the paper, the brushes, paint, pencils, and pastels. We’ll even help you get inspired. Many of our artists attending open studio sessions have commented, “I can’t draw a straight line.” Good! Who needs straight lines? All you need is to show up and be ready to create something.
We also safely store your work in between sessions, so when you return, you can pick up right where you left off. We also inventory all the work your create and help you get it ready for our Annual Show and Sale.
When a piece of your art sells at the Show, Art From the Streets retains a small portion ($5 or $10 if it has been mounted and shrink wrapped, depending on the size). The rest of the proceeds are yours. During the Show, the Art from the Streets team will manage all sales, keep track of who sold what, and for how much. At the end, we calculate how much each artist has made. We pay everyone a week or so later, once we’re sure all the numbers are right. In 2014, our artists sold more than $118,000 of their artwork.
