Bringing dignity, pride and a voice of expression to Austin's homeless.
What: Dragonflies. Hearts and love. Fish and the ocean. The artists crowded around the paint-splattered tables barely pause to explain the inspiration behind their work. The intensity shows in their eyes, sounds in their voices, leaps from the pieces they're creating. It's a scene from any art school class in New York, Paris or London as students focus on final preparations for the annual art exhibition and sale. Yet this is Austin. Alamo Drafthouse Showcases Free Documentary Screening to Benefit Local Homeless Artists
Austin filmmaker’s award-winning documentary takes audiences inside the lives of five local homeless artists participating in the Art From the Streets art program/show and sale
What: Austin screening of locally produced and directed feature-length film Art From the Streets is a documentary about
homelessness, art, tenacity, courage and hope. Austin filmmaker Layton Blaylock tracks the lives of five Austin homeless artists
who participate in the Art From the Streets art program run for the past 17 years by a dedicated staff of volunteers. Viewers will
visit homeless camps, learn of the daily challenges of street life, hear the whys of homelessness and witness the strengths of the
human character. The film is gritty and real, yet beautifully inspiring. For the third year, Alamo Drafthouse has agreed to host the
documentary screening to help raise funds for the program and increase awareness around the 17th Annual Art From the Streets

Art From the Streets Announces Dates for 17th Annual Show and Sale
Austin, Texas – June
3, 2009 – Art From The Streets (AFTS), a volunteer-driven
program providing a safe and encouraging environment for Austin’s homeless
to create art, today announced the dates for its 17th Annual Art from the Streets Show and Sale exhibition. This year's event will be held on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH), 500 East 7th Street at Neches. Orignal artwork starts at $35 with all sales proceeds, apart from a nominal mounting fee, going directly to the participating artists. A $3 suggested admission donation helps defray the cost of program supplies and materials. Parking is available on the street... [more]

Austin, Texas – July 29, 2009 - Art From the Streets (AFTS), a volunteer-driven program providing a safe and encouraging environment for Austin's homeless to create art, today announced the award-winning, feature-length documentary, Art From The Streets from Inferno Films, has been selected to screen at Lights. Camera. Help, the first film festival helping nonprofit and cause-driven organizations gain visibility through film and video. Art From the Streets Raises More Than $ 90K For Participating Homeless Artists; Sets Attendance Record
16th Annual Show & Sale results in an incredible 30% sales increase, 70% attendee increase from previous year

24, 2008 – Art From The Streets (AFTS), a volunteer-driven
program providing a safe and encouraging environment for Austin’s homeless
to create art, today announced it raised more than $90,000, a thirty
percent increase from last year, through art and calendar sales and
admission donations at its 16th Annual Art from the Streets Show & Sale,
making this year’s event the second most successful in the program’s
history. Money raised by art sales directly assists participating artists,
while donation money defrays the cost of art supplies and materials
